FIFA World Cup 2014 Asian qualifiers from June 29, 2011 Top
AFC has announced the format of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers. FIFA will invite entries from interested AFC Member Associations early next year and depending on the number of entries Round One will have home-and-away format on June 29, 2011, and July 3, 2011. The format of the qualifiers remains the same like 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers. The winners from Round One will progress to the second round which will also have a home-and-away format on July 23, 2011, and July 28, 2011. Twenty teams, including the winners of the second round, will be divided into five groups of four teams each. The winners and runners-up from each group will advance to the fourth round after playing in a home-and-away format. Ten teams in the fourth round will be divided into two groups of five and top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This round will have a home-and-away format. Third-best teams from Round 4 will play home-and-away in Round 5 and the winner will qualify for a Round 6 playoff against a team from another continent to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. London Olympics 2012 preliminary men's football competition Top
AFC has announced the format of the 2012 London Olympics preliminary men's football competition. Thirty-five teams have entered the fray for three-and-a-half slots in the men's Olympics football tournament. Twenty-two lowest ranked teams will play home-and-away playoff in Round One and the winners will qualify for the second round. First leg of the first round will be played on February 23, 2011, while the return leg will be played on March 9, 2011. The Round One winners will join 13 highest ranked teams in Round Two and 12 teams will make it to the third round after playing home-and-away playoff on June 19, 2011, and June 23, 2011. The teams will be divided into three groups of four teams each in the third round which will have a home-and-away format. The winners of each group will qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. All the second-placed teams will play in a round robin format and the winner will take on CAF's representative for a place in the Olympics. The third round matches will be played on September 21, 2011, November 23, November 27, February 5, 2012, February 22 and March 14. The round robin matches between the second-placed teams will be played at a centralised venue from March 25 to 29, 2012. AFC Challenge Cup 2012 Top
AFC has announced that no team will be given a direct entry into the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup Finals. Defending champions DPR Korea, runners-up Turkmenistan and third-placed Tajikistan will now have to go through the qualifiers to punch their tickets to the Finals. In a letter to all Member Associations, AFC has also informed about the format of the competition which was ratified by the Executive Committee in its meeting on July 30, 2010, in Kuala Lumpur. The following is the approved format for the said championship: •All 22 eligible Member Associations will compete in qualifiers (or playoff, if necessary). •The final qualifying round shall consist of four groups of four teams each. •The winners and runners-up from each group (total eight teams) will qualify for the tournament proper. •If there are more than 16 teams, the teams are to play pre-qualifying round (Home and Away). •Only the eight qualified teams for the tournament proper can bid to host the Finals.
