Facile victories for Orissa and Manipur in JNFC Top
Custom Search by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir) CHANDIGARH, JULY 24 Holders Orissa and runners-up Manipur continued to dish out brilliant soccer in the ongoing ninth edition of the Junior National Girls Under-19 Football Championship being hosted by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Punjab Engineering College grounds here. After completition of the preliminary round programme, Orissa and Manipur were clubeed in Group B quarter-final league. Today again, Orissa and Manipur displayed fireworks against their respective opponents. Both matches turned out to be hopelessly one-sided affairs. Both registered their second triumph over their respective rivals with authority. On Ground No. 1 defending champions and strong contenders virtually fought the battle in the rival territory as they outsmarted West Bengal by 7-0. At the adjacent ground, powerful Manipur bombarded Maharashtra by 8-0. Manipur have so far netted 16 goals without conceding any in their two quarter-final league matches. Earlier, they had defeated West Bengal with an identical 8-0 margin. Funtioning like a well-oiled machine the Orissa girls have 15 goals in their favour and non against. They had earlier routed West Bengal by 8-0. When Orissa and Manipur cross swords on July 26 in their last league fixture, the spectators will be treated to dizzy football. West Bengal were at the receiving end against Orissa who had total control over the ball. With immaculate passes and first time clearance by their defenders, Orissa camped inside the West Bengal territory. Orissa recorded their first goal in the 10 th minute through Jabamani Soren. With a full blooded shot from the right wing, Jabamani scored his second goal as deaf and dumb West Bengal goalkeeper Rekha Soren remained stranded at the far post in the 45 th minute. Deogi Murmu also contributed a brace by scoring in the 32 nd and 40 th minutes. Pratima Minz made it 4-0 in the 42 nd minute. In the last quarter, Janjali Sahu netted a gem of a goal as she gently tapped it from close in the 61 st minute. Janjali rounded of the winners' tally in the 69 th minute. Orissa's Jabamani Soren was caution in the second half for unsportsmanship. With S Rinaroy Devi made lethal strikes thrice as Manipur outplayed Maharashtra by 8-0. Maharashtra rarely had a close look at the Manipur goal. The fast moving and robust Manipur girls kept the Maharashtra defence busy throughout the match. Ranaroy Devi gave Manipur the lead in the 7 th minute. She also found the target in the 48 th and 51 st minutes. W Radharani Devi contributed two goals in the 8 th and 26 th minutes. E Bindiya Rani Devi (12 th ), Y Kamla Devi (28 th ) and Th Umabati Devi (69 th ) contributed one goal each as Manipur handed out an 8-0 drubbing to Maharashtra. Tomorrow's fixtures: Haryana vs Puducherry and UP vs Sikkim (4.30 p.m.).
