Santosh Trophy: Day 7 Top
Cluster V Delhi 3-1 Arunachal Pradesh (1-0 Bhuvan Joshi (19′), 2-0 Vikash Rawat (53′), 2-1 Bamin Tatunga (71′), 3-1 Tuishim Mashnga (81′) Delhi started off their Santosh Trophy campaign on a convincing note with a 3-1 facile victory over Arunachal Pradesh in a Cluster V encounter played at Kolkata on Wednesday. Former HAL midfielder Bhuvan Joshi helped Delhi to draw first blood of the match scoring in the 19th minute as Delhi went for the breather with a 1-0 precarious lead. After the lemon break, Delhi continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 55th minute through Vikash Rawat before Arunachal Pradesh pulled one back in the 71st minute with Bamin Tatunga strike. Tuishim Mashnga then, sealed the match in favour of Delhi scoring in the 81st minute as Delhi drew full points from the match. Madhya Pradesh 0-3 Uttar Pradesh (0-1 Irfan Zaman Khan (20′), 0-2, 0-3 Tushar Chaudhary (76′, 82′) Uttar Pradesh blanked Madhya Pradesh 3-0 to give a perfect start to their Santosh Trophy journey in another Cluster V encounter played today. Tushar Chaudhary scored a fine brace, while Irfan Zaman Khan was the other scorer as Uttar Pradesh notch up full points from the opening encounter. Cluster VI Haryana 0-4 Sikkim (0-1 Tshering Lepcha (6′), 0-2 Vikas Jairu (19′), 0-3 Birendra Rai (22′), 0-4 Rupesh Diyali (85′) Sikkim gave a promising start to their Santosh Trophy campaign trouncing Haryana 4-0 in their opening group league match played today. The North Eastern side were off to flyer and notched up three goals in the first half sending their rivals on the back foot. Tshering Lepcha opened the scoring in the 6th minute, while ONGC midfielder Vikas Jairu doubled the lead in the 19th minute. Before the break, Birendra Rai netted in the third goal as Sikkim dictated the terms right from the outset. A possible fightback for Haryana was far from their reach as they failed to recover from the initial damage and went on to concede the fourth goal in the 85th minute, when Rupesh Diyali scored for Sikkim.

In a gripping Ist pre-quarterfinal match, Karnataka edged past Maharashtra 1-0 to book their place in the quarterfinal league played at the Saltlake Stadium here on Wednesday evening. Excelling in their respective groups in the qualifying round, it was all to play for the teams but neither of the two were successful to break the deadlock in the regulation time. Finally the jinx was broken by Karnataka in the second minute of the first half of the added extra time through Ngurneilal Hamer as Garden City boys dashed Maharashtra hopes to qualify for the next round.
 
Sikkim edge past fighting Puducherry Top
Custom Search by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir) CHANDIGARH, JULY 21 Robust Sikkim edged past talented Puducherry by 2-1 in a well-contested Group A quarter-final league match in the 9th Junior National Girls Under-19 Football Championship being hosted by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Punjab Engineering College grounds here this evening. At the adjacent ground, Haryana displayed determination and purpose in their attack as they demolished the challenge of Uttar Pradesh by 5--0 in the second Group A quarter-final encounter billed for the day. The Sikkim girls were more organised while the Puducherry did not show any panic and even counter-attacked to give their rivals a tough time. In the evenly contested match, Sikkim drew the first blood in the 12th minute with Parbita Limbu catching the Puducherry defence napping. Down by a goal, Puducherry reorganised their game and launched counter attacks. In one of their moves in the 29th minute, P Parmeshwari put Puducherry back into the game with a fine goal. Sikkim counter-attacked in the next minute and again forged ahead with Nirmal Bhutia scoring with a powerful shot. Sikkim were able to keep this slender lead intact till the long whislte. Puducherry had a couple of chances to restore parity but the Sikkim defence thwarted all their moves. Sikkim's Nirmal Bhutia received a cautioned in the 68th minute for rough tackling. The defence-dominated second half did not produce any goal and Sikkim collected full three points from their first quarter-final league encounter. Haryana proved too good for Uttar Pradesh on ground number 2. With proper coordination among their players, Haryana established a commanding 3-0 lead at half time. Reena netted the first goal for Haryana in the 11th minute. Maintaining their pressure, Haryana doubled their margin in the 17th minute when Seema found the target. Taruna further increased the margin for Haryana with a goal in the 30th minute. The second half belonged to Shalu who contributed a fine brace. She caught the Uttar Pradesh defence on the wrong foot in the 64 minute and went on to add another goal to the kitty of Haryana in the 73rd minute. Tomorrow's fixtures: Group B (Q-final league): Orissa vs Maharashtra and Manipur vs West Bengal (4.30 p.m.)
