India may host SAFF Championship in 2011 Top
"India were originally supposed to host the SAFF Championship in 2009 in Goa but it was shifted to Bangladesh after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) could not assure visas for the Pakistani team due to strained relationships between the two countries," said Khadim. "Nepal will be the stand-by venue if India fails. But the final decision on the host nation will be made in the next SAFF EXCO meeting," he added. "World Sports Group (WSG), promoters of the tournament, and other sponsors also want the tournament to be held in India," he said. The SAFF Championship comprises of teams from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan. Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat believes if SAFF functions properly, the regional body will have a great impact on AFC and FIFA and the member countries will be benefit financially. The SAFF Executive Committee also mooted the plan to host a youth tournament. The executive committee is planning to host some tournaments like youth competitions, women's and a club competition. A total of eight tournaments were played in the past and India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives are the only four nations that have won the tournament. Launched at Lahore's Railway Stadium in 1993 as the SAARC Gold Cup, it has been known as the SAFF Championship from 1997 and is held biannually to promote football in the region.

Fans across the world will be able to buy tickets online for AFC's flagship tournament, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™, from July 25, 2010. The continental showcase will be held in Doha next year from January 7-29 and will feature the best 16 teams of Asia. The ticket sales follow the 2007 edition's model when AFC successfully pioneered online ticket sales after tying up with a major ticketing partner. Come Sunday, July 25, fans will be able to purchase their tickets online via the AFC's official website. Major credit cards will be accepted. Further, thanks to the advances in ticketing technology, Asian football fans will be able to choose their matches, ticket categories and seat locations within the stadiums. They may also purchase multiple tickets for one match or a group of matches at the same time. The opening match of the tournament will see hosts Qatar clash with 2007 quarter-finalists Uzbekistan. Iraq won the AFC Asian Cup 2007™ edition after defeating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. Cluster I Meghalaya 5-0 Jharkhand (1-0, 2-0, 3-0 Niwano Gatpoh (31′, 37′, 62′), 4-0 Steven Field (85′), 5-0 Malsawma Gawngliana (90+2′) Meghalaya kept their hopes alive to make it into the next round of the Santosh Trophy by trouncing Jharkhand 5-0 in their second and final group league encounter played today. After tasting defeat against Karnataka in their opening match, Meghalaya were back to business with a fine hat-trick from Shillong Lajong's winger Niwano Gatpoh. Niwano ripped apart the Jharkhand defence and netted in three goals, while Steven Field and Malsawma Gawngliana were the other scorers. A lot will depend on the last Cluster I encounter between Karnataka and Jharkhand as the former will just need a point to qualify for the next round, having beaten Meghalaya 1-0. Cluster II Chandigarh 1-1 Tripura (1-0 Harvinder Singh 23′, 1-1 Rajendra Deb Verma 58′) Chandigarh and Tripura played out a 1-1 draw in a Cluster II tie after going down in their opening matches. Accumulating just one point from two matches, both the team's chances to make it into the next round of the tournament were dashed out. Harvinder Singh put Chandigarh ahead in the match scoring in the 23rd minute, while Rajendra Deb Verma brought Tripura back to the level terms in the 58th minute. Andhra Pradesh 1-4 Maharashtra (0-1, 0-2 Alex Ambrose (18′, 21′), 3-0 Reuben D' Souza (26′), 1-3 Duty Kumar Mahto (45′), 1-4 Jatin Singh Bisht (64′) Maharashtra continued their undefeated streak and hammered Andhra Pradesh 4-1 to brighten their chances to make it to the next round of Santosh Trophy. By the virtue of this win and collecting six points from two matches, Maharashtra are favourites to qualify from Cluster II. Alex Ambrose scored an impressive brace , while Reuben D' Souza and Jatin Singh Bisht netted in one goal each before Duty Kumar Mahto pulled one back for Andhra Pradesh.
