Mohun Bagan toil to beat rough-and-tough NPS Top

Custom Search by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir) CHANDIGARH, SEPT 1 Despite enjoying territorial supremacy, Mohun Bagan Academy of Kolkata struggle to get past a rough-and-tough New Public School of Chandigarh by a solitary first-half goal in the inaugural Group C match of the 8th Administrator's Challenge Cup Under-17 All-India Tournament being conducted by the Chandigarh Sports Department at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today. The all-important goal was scored by T Borish Singh in the 17th minute when he connected a superb pass from Gopal Kundu from the left flank. Jobandeep Singh of New Public School twice got cautioned for deliberately indulging in rough tackle. He was first cautioned in the 33rd minute and later in the 62nd minute when he punched Sanjoy Halder. The Mohun Bagan player was taken out on stretcher for medical treatment. Two yellow cards (amounting to a red card) means that Jobandeep Singh will miss the next match of his team. Rishi Chettri, also of NPS, was cautioned in the 64th minute for rough play. Rain rendered the ground slippery and sluggish. Still the Mohun Bagan had more than a dozen chances to score. The NPS defence remained on their toes throughout the match and was able to brought a number of Mohun Bagan to nought with timely long clearance. Their tall goalkeeper Parminder Singh also made a couple of good saves. The Mohun Bagan threatened the NPS goal in the 13th minute. Sandip Dey sent a cross into the goal area where Narayan Biswas unleashed a sizzling shot which hit the upright. Mohun Bagan then took the lead in the 17th minute through T Borish Singh and kept it intact to win and gain full three points from the opening fixture. Mohun Bagan's another brilliant move came in the 28th minute. Narayan Biswas dribbled his way into the box from the left side and shot powerfully. However, NPS custodian Parminder Singh dived full length to make a fine save. In the second half, Mohun Bagan did every thing except scoring. They did not go all out to avoid any injury to their players. Earlier, Chandigarh Home Secretary Ram Niwas inaugurated the tournament. Also present on the occasion were Sports Director ML Sharma, Joint Director Dr JPS Sidhu and District Sports Officer KS Bharti. Surprisingly, local DAV Football Academy today played truant as they did not report for the march past. Tomorrow's fixtures: At Sector 17 Stadium: SFA Orissa vs YC Rurka Kalan (7 a.m.) and Mahindra and Mahindra vs Rohit Academy Orissa (11 a.m.). Sector 42 Football Ground: Gorkha Training Centre Shillong vs Indian Tigers, Mumbai (7 a.m.) and Madhya Pradesh vs Dalbir Academy, Patiala (9 a.m.).

Custom Search by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir) CHANDIGARH, SEPT 2 Powerful and speedy L Robert Metai registered the first hat-trick as Gorkha Training Centre of Shillong thrashed Indian Tigers of Mumbai by a whooping 10-1 margin Group A match in the 8th Administrator's Challenge Cup All India Under-17 Football Tournament being hosted by the Chandigarh Sports Department at the Sector 42 Football Ground here today. Robert Metai was not much in picture earlier. It was only in the last 20 minutes of the match when he hogged the limelight as the performed three-in-a-row feat. He netted in the 60th, 63rd and 78th minutes to earn the distinction of becoming the first player to earn the distinction of scoring three-in-a-row feat of the tournament. P Tshering Singh also contributed three goals by scoring in the 15th, 24th and 44th minutes. Other goal-getters for Gorkha Training Centre were T Itonsana Singh (25th), Roel Lepcha (32nd), A Sushil Metei (37th) and Bijoy Subha (43rd). At the same ground, Mirozam SSA outplayed Haryana Football Association by 6-1 in Group B fixture. It was Haryana which drew the first blood with Narender Singh finding the object in the 17th minute. After conceding a goal, Mizoram hit back with vengeance and restored parity in the 19th minute through Francis Ramdin. The Mizoram players then struck through Challiant Lunga (34th) and Dawngliana (39th) to take a 2-1 lead in the fisrt half. On resumption, the Mizoram players continued to dominate and Dawngliana (45th), Lal Rin Hlya (57th) and C Remmawia (80th, penalty) added one goal each to increase their victory margin. Haryana player Kailash was cautioned for using abusive language. Haryana player Ankit was injured during the play and was referred to Government Multi Specialities Hospital in Sector 16 for X-ray of his right foot. Dr Amrik Singh, doctor on duty at the venue, referred Ankit to the Sector for X-ray as he suspects fracture in toe. At the Sector 17 Football Stadium, Madhya Pradesh eked out a surprising 1-0 victory over Dalbir Academy of Patiala in group D match. The match-winner was scored by Mukesh Kumar in 80+1 (additional time) Vineet Yadav of MP was cautioned in the 50th minute for rough play. Youth Club of Rurka Kalan defeated Sampalpur Football Academy of Orissa by 3-0 in a Group C league outing. Ashit Gupta opened the account for Youth Club in the 15th minute. Amritpal Singh (37th) and Harjit Singh (42nd) contributed one goal each as Youth Club recorded a facile victory. Sambalpur Academy's Ajmin Chisti received a yellow card in the 70th minute for indulging in rough play. Mahindra and Mahindra of Mumbai did not report for the match against Rohit Academy of Orissa who were given walkover and full points. Mahindras have withdrawn from the tournament. At Sector 17 Football Stadium: New Public School Chandigarh vs YC Rurka Kalan (9 a.m.), IFA Kolkatta vs Madhya Pradesh (1.30 p.m.) and SGGS Paldi vs Dalbir Academy Patiala (3.30 p.m.).
