FPWA LAUNCHES UNDER 16 FOOTBALL ACADEMY IN SRINAGAR Top
The Football Players Welfare Association (FPWA) has launched the Under-16 football academy through which about 30 players would be trained for four years before they get chance to play for any recognised club. For this FPWA organised selection trials at SP College ground on Thursday in which 50 players turned up. The 50 players would go through selection trials for five working days and among them 30 players would be selected. The selected players would be trained, polished by expert coaches for four years before they will be adjusted in recognised local and national clubs. During the training, players would be given football kits and coaching free of cost by FPWA. The FPWA is headed by national footballer Mehrajuddin Wadoo and during trials he was present and monitoring the training. "I am delighted to see 50 talented players turning up for trials among which we have to pick 30 during next five working days. Among the lot I found some of the player's really talented ones and they after being trained in proper way can bring laurels for state in future" Wadoo said. When asked why to start Under-16 level academy instead of U-12 and 14 he said, "I think Under-16 is right age to impart training. After being imparted training for fours they will be Under-19 and I think that will be there right age to make name for themselves at state and national level." In the academy which is not a big academy like that of Mohun Bagan and other national level academies players will be trained by expert coaches like Sajid Dar, Hilal Ahmad, and others who have been well known coaches of valley from last many years. "This is initial phase of our academy and the facilities are nothing compared to national level academies were trainees get everything from food to schooling, training to pocket money" said Sajid Dar "Despite all that we will still provide players football kits and training free of cost. It is like training school rather than academy but we have got big plans in future for it. We are starting from ground level this time" he added. Meanwhile due to unprecedented situation across valley only one day trial has been possible till now. The next of trial is now on Monday
