ONGC 2nd Division League: NISA FLOP SHOW CONTINUE Top
A 87th minute strike by Satish Kumar Jr. helped HAL to overcome NISA 2-1 in a final round match of the ONGC Second Division League played at the KSFA Stadium, Bangalore here on Thursday. The Bangalore based side now are serious contender for a place in the next edition of the I-League. Three points now takes HAL in a commanding position as they leads the point table with 15 points. Pitting against one of the best side in the ONGC Second Division League, NISA crumbled in the initial stages but, thanks to the local side, who had one of the worst start in the six matches they played so far. Joseph Adeola and Fredrick Okwagbe had to sit out due to one match automatic suspension for the Bangalore side and were badly missed as HAL looked off colour albeit , they managed to scrap an important win to brighten their qualifying chances. An ordinary first half saw lots of miss-passes and lack of combination from both the sides as stalemate prevailed over the first forty-five minutes. HAL picked themselves up in the second half and phased in series of chances in search of the opener and their hard work was finally paid off, when rookie Karthigeyan found the back of the net in the 49th minute. HAL stepped up the gas on their opponent and almost pulled themselves ahead in the match on couple of occasions. First it was Satish Kumar Jr. whose shot was blocked by the NISA left wing back Thomas Singh in the 60th minute, while three minutes later HAL skipper, Xavier Vijay Kumar was denied from inside the box as NISA custodian Prem Kumar Singh pulled off a great save. It was certainly not Xavier Vijay Kumar's day as he missed a sitter from inside the six yard box in the 73rd minutes. Minutes later HAL had to pay for the missed chances as Thomas Singh brought NISA back in the match to add more worries to the local side. Satish Kumar then proved, why he is so important for the Garden City side as he netted in the winner to leave the local fans elated in the 87th minute.
